Reporting
to Parents Each grade holds a "meet the
teacher" interview early in Term 1. Parents are formally
invited to an interview in Term 2 where their student's
portfolio will be discussed. In Term 4, portfolios will be
sent home & interviews may be requested. Children are required to have an A4
Display Folder at the beginning of each year. Children are
asked to return these after viewing in Term 2. They may be
kept at home at the end of the year. Parents are informally invited to
discuss their child's progress with class teachers or the
principal at an time they are concerned about progress or
behaviour. Please see your child's teacher for an
appointment. Parent

One of the aims of our school is to encourage community participation in the education process. The school's responsibility for educating students should be shared with parents. This school provides many opportunities for community participation in the life of the school & for parents to consult with teachers about the welfare of their children. We encourage parents to become involved in whole school activities such as the P.& C. Association & special events.
Open days are held at various times during the year, eg. School Fun Day, Education Week. You will be notified by the Bulletin of special events & we hope that you will be able to join in these special times with us.
The Barrack Heights Homework Policy closely follows that of the NSW Department of Education. The main points of this policy are:
1. The purpose of homework is to consolidate, extend and/or enrich the class program.
2. Homework helps to further the home-school partnership.
3. Class teachers will establish homework programs appropriate to individual or group needs.
4. Homework is not used as a punishment. You are invited to discuss the class homework plan with class teachers.
Every class has a Home Reading Program operating. The children are asked to borrow books to be enjoyed at home. The books range in difficulty. Some books are designed for the children to read while other books are a little more difficult and are suitable for parents or older brothers & sisters to share with the child.
Home Reading encourages children to discover & enjoy books. With teachers & parents showing a positive attitude towards books, the children will develop a love for books & reading.
Home Reading Bags are provided at the commencement of the year & replacements are available from the Canteen at a cost of 10c.
Books in Other Languages
The school library has a small collection (some bilingual English) in the following languages:-
Croatian, German, Greek, Italian, Macedonian, Polish, Portuguese, Serbian, Spanish, Turkish & Vietnamese.
The purpose of these books
is: 1. to allow parents who cannot read
English to read to their children 2. to allow parents to read to
their children in their first language thereby developing
their language skills 3. to allow bilingual children or
new arrivals to continue literacy in their first
language
You are welcome to speak to the teacher-librarian about
borrowing
these books.
