Playground Organisation

Before 9:00am

The bell rings at 9am & children should arrive at school just before that time.

All students are to leave their bags at a designated spot & proceed directly to the Primary play area, including Kindergarten children.

Parents do not have to stay with children.

A member of staff is on duty there from 8:40am each day.

Handball & basketball practice are permitted on the basketball court.

Recess 11:00-11:25am

Students K-6 sit down in Passive Area to eat before using the Primary playground.

Handball & basketball practice are permitted on the basketball court.

Canteen facilities are available.

Lunch 12:45-1:35pm

Class teachers supervise their own students eating lunch.

At 12:55pm, students go directly to either the Primary playground, to the canteen or the library.

Wet Weather

Children are supervised in classrooms or in passive areas/COLA.

Afternoon Duty at 3:00pm

A member of the Executive staff is on duty to supervise the departure of the students from the playground. Students must leave by way of the two main gates on Hunter Street. The delivery gate & the Staff Carpark are both OUT OF BOUNDS at all times.

Please be on time when collecting your child at 3pm.

Students are reminded constantly of the need to observe road rules.

Please inform the class teacher of any changes to your child's normal routine. This is particularly important if you are going to be late collecting your child.

Students waiting to catch the school bus home must line up under the COLA.

OOSH children wait with the teacher on duty.

Absences from School

Children are expected to be at school every day unless they are sick. It is most important that children attend regularly so that they can keep up with new work.

If your child is absent from 1-3 days, please send a note explaining the absence when he/she returns; if the absence is to be over 3 days, a telephone call or message will let us know what is happening, but this should be followed up by a note (this is a legal requirement). Class rolls are checked regularly by the Home School Liaison Officer who follows up unexplained absences.

A note is also required if a child is late or leaves early. Please understand that this is for your child's safety. Any child leaving early must be picked up from the office where you will be required to sign your child out.

Medication at School

If your child is sick & requires medication it is usually possible to give this before leaving home & on the child's return. In cases where this is not possible, it is essential that you observe the following:

1. Send a note to the child's teacher requesting that medication be given to the child, the amount to be given & the times. It is advised that parents come into the office & fill out the required documentation.

2. Send the amount of medication for 1 day only. This must be given to the office staff as soon as the child arrives at school.

Panadol & Aspirin cannot be given without written consent.

Children should never have any form of medication at school without the teacher's knowledge. This is for the safety of all children in the school.

Infectious Diseases

Health Department Regulations state that children with infectious diseases must be isolated from school for the following periods:

Conjunctivitis

until discharge has ceased

Chicken Pox

As we have children with Leukaemia at school it is imperative that you let the school know if your child has chicken pox.

Measles

Rubella (German Measles)

at least 6 days

Impetigo

until sores have healed

Head Lice

Sick or Injured Students

The school policy is that every effort will be made to contact parents when a student is hurt or falls ill. Failing this, we will keep the student under observation and/or seek medical attention if necessary.

If your child is sick before coming to school please make arrangements to keep your child at home until he/she is feeling well. Do not send children to school with an illness or injury & then expect them to be treated at school - there is no school nurse on staff. Other children may also become infected, if children come to school sick & spread germs.

Lost Property

Please mark all your child's belongings permanently & clearly.

Lost property can be collected near the Library foyer. Items which are clearly marked are returned to the owners. Unclaimed items are kept no longer than one month before being sent to charity or placed in the school clothing pool.

School Bulletin

Every Thursday the school bulletin is distributed to the youngest family member attending this school. The bulletin contains weekly news, general information & class events. You are advised to collect the bulletin from your child every Thursday afternoon.

Read the School Bulletin online

Money Collection

Please send money for excursions, performances, camps, etc. to your child's teacher clearly marked with the child's name & what the money is for. Money collection days are Tuesday, Thursday & Friday only. Do not send money to the office. Money sent in on other days will be returned home with your child.

Banking

Children have the opportunity to open a savings account, through the school, with the Commonwealth Bank. Passbooks & money are collected & returned each Tuesday morning. Kindergarten children will receive application forms to open an account during Term 1.

Custody Arrangements

If you have custody arrangements, please allow us to see the court order. A note will then be made on the child's record card & in the class roll. In these cases it is also important that we know exactly how the child will get home each day.

School Photographs

Class, individual & family (children) photographs are taken by private photographers during Term 1 & are then for sale through the school if you wish to buy. You will hear more about his through the Weekly Bulletin at the beginning of the year.

Book Club

Twice each term children & parents have the opportunity to purchase books through the school. This is a great way to build up a library of quality children's books at home.

Each child will bring home an order form. If you wish to purchase a book, you fill in the order form & return to the school library by the date due, together with the cost of the book in an envelope.

The envelope should be marked "Bookclub" & have your child's name, class & the amount enclosed clearly written on the front. This should be taken to the library.

All books are at special club prices.
