Lake Illawarra is a salt water
lake. It is near Wollongong.
There are different types of plants
that live around the lake like Swamp She-Oak, Water Buttons,
Spreading Flax-Lily, Searush, Swamp Lily, Swamp Weed and
Eelgrass.
The Royal Spoonbill and the Purple
Swamp Hen are birds that live near the lake. There are
different types of animals like crustaceans like Eastern
King Prawns; molluscs like the Sydney Cockle; and
jellyfish.
The deepest part of Lake Illawarra
is 4 metres; mostly it is only 1 metre deep. At Picnic
Island there is a 250 metre bushwalk and there is a lookout
there.
Rangers should put cameras in the
park to protect it from vandalism.
There are holiday and tourist
resorts. Windang, Shellharbour and Lake Illawarra South are
popular holiday settlements.
Lake Illawarra has mild weather and
a rainfall of 1200 mm each year. It has strong winds and a
mild temperature.
The Lake Illawarra Authority
restores the ecological environment.
The Wadi Wadi people lived around
Lake Illawarra. It had lots of food; that's why the
aboriginals like Lake Illawarra.
Lake Illawarra is a holiday and
tourist area. People think Lake Illawarra is a very special
place for them because there are lots of activities and they
like it.
