Public
School
I must act and play
safely. I must respect other
people. I must care for our
environment.
At Barrack
Heights Public School our motto is:-
We believe that the most effective form of discipline is self discipline where the student makes the choices.
Parents are an integral part of their child's education and have a major role to play in each child's behaviour and discipline. The support and help we receive from parents in assisting their children make the right decision is invaluable.
There are occasions when students make the wrong decisions and the school needs to apply consequences. When this happens we need to maintain open communication and really concentrate on our school motto of working together.
We recognise and reinforce student
achievement through regular: * contact with
parents * commendations at
assemblies * notices in the
bulletin * promotions in the media &
shopping centres

* high standards of behaviour in
the classroom, playground, excursions, sporting activities
and traveling to and from school. * being safe at all
times * obeying those in

homework tasks * wearing school
uniform * no drugs, weapons, alcohol or
tobacco on school premises * positive relationships between

Our school rules need to be obeyed
in the playground for every students' safety. Teachers on playground duty will
encourage safe play. If a student continues to play in
an unsafe or dangerous manner to others, he/she will be
placed on detention. Students placed on detention will be
sent to the Assistant Principal. * An official letter will
be sent to parents & the child will attend 2
days detention. Re-offenders will have a
4-day detention. * A behaviour sheet will
be completed. It is designed to focus on the
students behaviours & asks the following
questions. * What happened?
Write down everything and everybody who
was involved including the teacher who
spoke to you. * What did you
do? Just you - no-one else.
* Which school
rule did you break? * Think of 4
things you can do next time instead of
what you did.

Most students respond to warnings but in cases of classroom misbehaviour, Barrack Heights P.S. has the following system:
What was I
doing? What
should I have been doing? What will
I do next time? A behaviour sheet is filled out and
the parents will be informed in writing or by
phone. A student is removed from the
classroom for swearing, harming others & wilfully
destroying property. The student may also be removed from
the school.
A warning (for breaking a rule) will be given prior to the
student's name being placed on the board.
Name - if student misbehaves again
Cross - if student continues to misbehave
Second Cross - Time-Out Sheet
If
the unacceptable behaviours continue a third cross is added
and the student is sent to the grade
supervisor.
